I can't believe how abandoned this blog has been the last few months. Sorry about that.

I am sad to say I haven't been in my scrapbook room in awhile. However I am getting the itch again so hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to post some new work.

November Scrapbooking Workshop

This photo shows you the paper pack you will receive, the instructions booklet to make the featured layout, embellishment kit and the exclusive stamp. It also shows you the 3 card designs that are in included in the instruction booklet.

And to show you how versatile these layouts are. Here is my version of it with some slight changes to make it work for the photos I wanted to scrapbook. It's hard to tell in the picture, but I used a different title that says "Happy Birthday" and a different journal box on the right hand page. I also used a different stamp image that wasn't floral as this layout is for my son's album.

Since you get a full paper pack you get enough paper to complete several layouts. For our workshop this is the second layout we will be completing. You can also recreate this layout at home if you order the kit.

Okay, I finally remembered to get some photos of the recent scrapbook pages I made. So here they are.

This Fall page was a layout I made for a swap with other CTMH consultants. I added the pictures this week after getting these fun shots of my son playing in the leaves.

I finally was able to scrapbook my daughter's 1st and 2nd birthday photos. Both use Magic Moments paper and the layouts are from CTMH's new Magic book.

So far I have one album per year for both my children - we will see how long that continues for ;) Anyways these next 2 layouts are for the front page of each of their books.

My little man started JK this year.....oh, what a sad day that was! He was so excited until the bus came along and the fear hit him. This is the page I created using CTMH papers and stamps.

This layout was actually one that we created last fall in one of my workshops. I just didn't have the pictures to put on it. So when my daughter was jumping in the leaves last weekend I snapped tons of pictures to ensure I could get the right sizes for this layout.

This is also another layout we did in a workshop last year. I sadly never got around to putting pictures on it. So I finally printed off some pictures of my son last year at Halloween and completed this page, bringing me up to date with his Halloween pictures :)

My son played soccer 2 summers ago now and I also was finally able to get a layout done for that as well.

And last but not least this layout was actually done by my friend Kim for the swap we just did with other CTMH consultants. I was thrilled to be able to use her great layout for Halloween pictures from last year. There, I am official caught up on Halloween layouts. Now to makes sure I scrapbook this years events shortly after Halloween before I get behind again.

Well this week was a bit of crazy one and I totally neglected this blog.....sorry. So here is a quick run down of the cake projects this week.

Halloween Cake Pops Workshop

Magnifique Workshop on the go

Here is another WOTG I completed this weekend. Like I mentioned below I am loving these workshops!
I adjusted the layouts slightly again to work with the photos I had and I love the results.

I am now caught up on my Sons birthday layouts. Now I need to get the birthday parties done and I will be laughing.

Workshops on the go

I have a new found love for the workshops on the go (WOTG).   Since they were introduced a couple of years ago, I did about a handful of the layouts.   While I have made it my mission to work my way through all of them in the new Fall/Winter book.
In an older post you can see the Olivia page I did.   This weekend I have been working my way through the Hooligans and Magnifique WOTG.
Although the layouts provided by CTMH are beautiful, I have been changing them around slightly to work better with my photos.   Changing photo sizes and papers used has allowed me to finally work my way through my ever growing pile of already printed photos.

I finally was able to make a beer bucket cake :) This is a smaller one for one of the staff at my office. Beer bottles, labels and ice are edible sugar on top of a chocolate cake.

The second cake this week was a retirement cake. This golf bag was made to celebrate some extra time on the greens. Everything is edible.

The Fall/Winter Idea Book releases in a few days :)    Here is a sneak peak at some of the paper. This pack is called Olivia.

The new books showcase the Workshops On The Go (WOTG) on page 24-25. Although the layout is very pretty it just wasn't working for me. I used different papers from the Olivia Paper Pack and changed my picture sizes to work with what I had.    You may notice that the right had side is also rotated so that it would work with my 8x10. I wanted to show you just how versatile these workshops can be.

I love all the new papers and can't wait to work my way through all the WOTG.    Watch for a second page to this workshop and information on my workshop date in September.

I made 50 nautical cupcakes for a Bridal Shower this weekend. The colours requested where red, white and blue.

Wow, this cake ended up being a ton more work then I had thought it would be. All the blocks are made from chocolate, then stuffed with cake.

I also made 3 dozen mini cupcakes topped with a Lego block for those that aren't chocolate fans and for the younger kids attending the party.

Night Garden and Golf Bag

Well this was a busy week for me. My daughter turned 2 on Saturday and my son turns 4 tomorrow. So we do one big party for both of them. The week is full of party planning, picking up items and of course making the cake. This year my son requested a In The Night Garden cake, and thankfully my daughter also loves this show so I was able to get away with making one big cake rather then 2 cakes.

Because this theme is not as popular in Canada as it is in England they don't have party themed items here to purchase. So I got creative and make cookie flowers for all the kids to decorate. Here is my daughter and son with their cookies.

The few days before the party it was work as usual and I had a cake order to fill as well. They requested a golf bag cake. I kept it black and white to honestly keep it easier on myself with having so much on my plate this week. I love the contrast it ended up giving the cake.

Workshop layouts

Okay so I am always on my workshop ladies to be actually using their layouts and not just collecting them. We actually have a draw each week and if you bring a previous workshop layout with some pictures on it you can be entered into the draw.

Well I have another confession to make. Besides from collecting swap layouts (see below post) I also have a good collection of workshop layouts without pictures. I try to put pictures on them when I can but truthfully I forget about the layouts half the time and end up scrapbooking something new for the set of pictures. So while I was sorting through my swap layouts I also pulled out my workshop layouts and put a few pictures on. I wanted to post so the ladies can see the finished product as they always look so much nicer with pictures on them.

Using up some swap layouts

Some of you are familiar with swaps while many aren't.   A swap is were a group of people all sign up to participate, each person making a specific number of the same layouts - usually 6-8 layouts.   You send your completed layouts into the host, who also receives the same number of layouts from all the other participants and she swaps them out so that each person receives one layout back from everyone in the group. So basically you send in 6-8 of the same layouts and get 6-8 different layouts back. It's like Christmas when the package comes, getting to see what everyone has created.

I participate in swaps all the time as I really enjoy them and it keeps me creative.   However I have become somewhat of a swap hoarder. I have tons of layouts in my scrapbook room without any pictures on them. So my goal this year is to put as many of those layouts to good use as I can.

Here are some of the swap layouts I finally put pictures on.   I don't know who created the layout so unfortunately can't give create to the amazing scrapbookers out there :(

I loved this layout as soon as I seen it. It was part of a swap awhile back that was all boy themed. I just didn't have the pictures to put on it at the time.   My son and husband went to Monster trucks a few months back so I used this layout to get those pictures done. She put a little journal pocket, which I also used to put the tickets in for keepsake.

This was actually the layout I made for the same boys swap. I finally put some pictures on it from a camping trip we had a few weeks ago.

This layout is from an paper pack themed swap. I hate scrapbooking Easter for some reason so this was perfect to be able to put some pictures on an already done layout and call it a day :)

Choo, Choo

It was fun to see this one come to life. So many times when I start a cake I look at it praying I can make it look okay, then as you add each piece it comes to life to nicely.
The trains are real and are the birthday boys well loved toys that we washed up and added to the cake.

Oh, the beach

This cake just makes you want to take a trip to the beach! This was a cake I did for my daycare provider Linda. It's her birthday this weekend and since we won't see her we took the cake to her today. She always wears flip flops around the house, winter though summer so this was a fun one to make for her.

I actually was able to attend a workshop today instead of teaching them :) It was really fun to learn from Andrea of Sweet Cakers as she is extremly talented. Here are the pictures of my cake which is now driving my poor son crazy, he so badly wanted it for dessert but I just can't bring myself to cut into it.....he-he. Maybe tomorrow night after I have had a bit more time to admire it on the counter.

A fine cake with a sad ending

So I just delivered this cake this afternoon. It was made to match the party decorations for a 1st birthday. I met the customer in a mid town between us, the transfer went great, her trip home with it went great. She carried it into the house safe and sound...........then her older son (I would guess about 3-4 years old) went to town on it and totally destroyed the cake. Oh, I could cry right along with her :(

I had the misfortune of my computer getting very ill, so it has been at the computer Dr for the last 6 days. I just spoke with my tech guy and he finally is making progress with it, what ever happened to it was big. So I will get more things posted for you again shortly.

My little niece turned 4 on Monday and today is her birthday party. When I asked her what kind of cake she would like at first she said she didn't know. Then I asked her what her favorite toy/show etc was and I got a huge list of princesses and dolls. Then she said Ariel was her favourite, so what choice did Aunt Julie have but to make an Ariel cake.

I used a Barbie doll version of Ariel for a few reasons. Copy right laws prevent me from molding my own figures of copyright charactors and selling them. Even though this cake is for my niece, I still didn't want to promote a copyright cake in my gallery. Second, what kid doesn't enjoy an extra toy on their cake. Third, it also makes my life a little easier :)

New use for My Acrylic Stamps

I found a new use for CTMH stamps. The bottom tier of this cake was imprinted with Playful Flourishes stamp set. I then used the imprint as a guide to pipe in the gold icing.

I am sharing more good news. For those of you following my cake blog Smashing Cake Designs you are aware of my last cake making it to the top.

Well today I got a great call for one of my scrapbooking pages. Close to my Heart called me today to request permission to publish one of my layouts. I am over the moon!! As you know Close to my Heart creates tones of amazing layouts all the time, so for one of mine to be noticed by them feels pretty amazing.

I will post more details later and a picture of the layout once I have everything organized with them.

I have yet to see her work, but from what I understand it is beautiful. A painter's pallet was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of a birthday cake for her. Today I get exclusive access to Studio J so that I can play around before it's released to customers. I must tell you I am very impressed.    The program is very easy to use - I didn't even have to read instructions! I have already created 5 layouts and am working on a few more.   This is a great way to get caught back up on my scrapbooking.

Don't worry, I am not giving up on traditional scrapbooking. I am just more impressed then I thought I would be with how easy digital scrapbooking can be.

I will post some pictures later when I figure that part out.

I am officially in trouble. Thanks to Leslie I just found out that there is a new machine being released in April by Cricut. I am sure most of you are familiar with Cricut for scrapbooking and how amazing it is. Well in April a new one is being release for cakes!!!!! It is a food safe machine meant to cut fondant and gum paste. Several new cartridges coming out with it......and even better the cartridges are interchangable. So I can use the ones I already have now to make letters and designs for cake. Oh, just when I was trying to cut back on all my purchases I get a tease like this.

Bottom of the barrel

My little brother turned 30 this week. Whiskey has always been his drink of choice so I couldn't resisit making this cake for his party tomorrow night. I think these 2 guys finished off the barrel.

I think this was the most fun I have had on a cake. I did several new things that turned out to be easier then I thought. This was also my first time every doing people.....I think I need a little more practice with them still but it was a fun attempt :)

Snowman Layouts

We had the kids out playing in the snow a few days ago. I had bought this snowman kit years ago with the hat, scarf, button etc, so we finally pulled it out of the closet and made a snowman. They had so much fun and still say 'hi' to him every morning on the way out the door.

My Son's layout uses the new Felicty Collection that you can earn for free this month. I just love these papers. I added lots of mini sparkles on the page which is hard to see in the picture but looks great on the layout.

My daughter's layout I used Aspen paper with some pink to girly it up! I also used the Heartfelt Die-Cuts by CTMH for the snowflakes...I have been dying to use these on a layout.

Ahh, I am almost done my Christmas layouts for this year. I still need to do one of Christmas day for my daughter's page. These are all super simple layouts since I was trying to get them done quickly and was getting fed up of red and green.

These are 2 single page layouts that I did so they will compliment each other side by side using Evensong for my son's album.

This 2 page layout also uses Evensong paperpack and No Peeking Stamp set for my son's Christmas day layout.

The next 2 pages are single pages using Jingle Creative Basics for my daughter's album.

A fun Christmas Tree cake. I made this cake for the kids Christmas party at daycare tomorrow. I was going to make something with a lot more detail, however I just found out today that the party is tomorrow rather then Thursday so in a time crunch this is what I came up with.

This was a fun cake to make. My daycare provider asked me to make a tractor cake for her Dad's birthday this weekend. The wheels and hay stacks are made from rice krispie treats and covered in chocolate fondant. The cake will be delivered tomorrow and hopefully it will be what she is looking for.

Clean and fresh

I have one section of the kitchen cupboards done. I love how nice and crisp they look. My before picture didn't turn out great at all but here is a after picture of the top section I have done as well as one the shows the bottom cupboards so you can see what they looked like before.

I think I am hanging up my paint brush until after Christmas now, so will finish it off then and start planning a new counter :)

Big Project

I must admit my timing on my latest project is purely bad. I have a cupcake workshop to start preparing for, Christmas baking to start, a cake order or two to work on and of course a ton of Christmas presents to wrap. Plus I am dying to get some scrapbooking done.

So of all the items above, what do I start doing this weekend......remodeling my kitchen. Am I crazy???? We have lived in this house for 5 years and I have always hated the kitchen, so on Friday I decided enough was enough and I bought myself some paint, new knobs and hinges and started to work away. While it's now Sunday and I am only a 1/4 of a way through painting the cupboards. So far loving the way it looks but can't stand to look at how much work is still ahead of me. Once the painting is done I want to do the counters and a backsplash and hopefully have a kitchen I can finally stand looking at....he-he.

I will take some pictures as I go and post my new kitchen :)

Igloo Cake

I have been having cake decorating withdrawels, so last night I decided to pull out everything and created this Igloo cake. It was a lot of fun to make. This was my first time making fondant trees, your hands could get pretty sore if you had a lot of them to make, but they are pretty easy.

This cake is made for a customer who's Mother is turning 50 today. She loves Daisies, so the only requirements for the cake was lots of Daisies and enough to feed 30. Hopefully this will be enough flowers and make her smile on her birthday.

I was asked last week to make a baby shower cake with Teddy Bears and a bed, so this is what I did. I based it on my 5 Little Monkey cake. This cake needs to feed 20 people so it's a 'queen' sized bed :)

This was my project last night. I have a cake order for this weekend that will have these little bears on it. They are made from fondant and gum tex. It's always fun to see these things come to life.
